The State Key Laboratory of Precision Measurement Technology and Instruments is a nation-level key laboratory, which was approved by the National Planning Commission in 1990 and reestablished in 2022, jointly organized by Tsinghua University (THU) and Tianjin University (TJU). The research of the laboratory covers two national firstclass key disciplines and the associated secondclass disciplines, i.e., the Instrument Science and Technology (in THU and TJU) and the Optical Engineering (in THU). The Laboratory has two subdivisions, located in THU and TJU, respectively.
Striding towards precision measurement technology and instrument, the Laboratory endeavors in both basic and applied research. By applying new science findings and technology, the Laboratory focuses on the new principles, methods and key technology associated with the development of instruments. Meanwhile, the Laboratory makes big efforts in contributing to the national economic development and national security.
Since its establishment, the Laboratory solved the bottleneck problems in precision measurement in the backbone industries of advanced manufacture, ICT, aeronautical and space, energy and environment,as well as in key areas of national defense, basic instrumentation, health and medicine, environment protection and scientific research. Through these efforts, the Laboratory has gained the leading role in China and plays a big role in the world. In the area of high-end equipment and advanced manufacture, the Laboratory has provided online, fast, and noncontact precision measurement technology for the manufacturing process in aerospace engineering, advanced CNC machines, and weapons. In the area of micro-/nano-technology, the Laboratory has provided integrated systems and key measurement and control technology for micro-nano-sensors/actuators, micro airborne vehicles, space microsystems and nano-satellite, and new supercapacitors. In the area of scientific research and high-tech forefront, the Laboratory has provided ultra-high-capacity storage and advanced opto-electric measurement
technology for research in information storage, optical measurement, and nano measurement. In the area of national defense and societal development, the Laboratory has developed high-precision, dynamic, complex environment-compatible sensing, soft sensing and measurement systems for complex coordinate measurement, precision gyroscope navigation system, and enhancement of people’s living standard.
