The Institute of Laser and Photonics in the Department of Precision Instrument of Tsinghua University serves for the national development and security, and focuses on the development frontier of science and technology in the field of optoelectronics, conducting the fundamental research, applied application and system research mainly on the subjects of solid-state lasers, fiber optics, adaptive optics, laser detection and astronomical optics. The institute is sufficiently equipped with wellconditioned hardware, including super-clean lab for the experiments as well as complete sets of advanced laser instruments and equipment, providing a favorable environment for the development of laser and photonics technologies. The institute has undertaken a series of important projects including the "973", “863”, National Innovation Project, The National Key Technology R&D Program, and Supporting Model Research Project. An integrated system with abundant technical strength by combining high-power laser sources, weaklight measurement and control technologies has been developed. The institute has made significant achievements, and has been granted to establish the Key Laboratory of Photonic Control Technology of Ministry of Education in 2018, and awarded as one of the Sci-tech Innovation Team in 2019.

The institute has about 80 faculty members, including 6 Professors, and 7 Associate Professors. Among them, there are 1 chief scientist of the National Key Technology R&D Program, 1 specialist of National Major Special Project of Ministry of Science and Technology, recipients of National High-level Talents Projects and National Brilliant Youth Projects, and 1 young scholar awarded the Excellent Young Scientists Fund by the National Natural Science Foundation of China.
