​Lord Nicholas Stern appointed Honorary Professor of Tsinghua University

Lord Nicholas Stern, Chair of the Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and the Environment and the Global School of Sustainability at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), visited Tsinghua University from March 23 to 24 and was appointed Honorary Professor of the University. President Li Luming and Jiang Peixue, Vice Chair of the University Council, led separate meetings with Lord Stern.

During the meeting on March 23, President Li welcomed Lord Stern and expressed gratitude for his long-standing contributions to advancing global climate governance, supporting the Global Alliance of Universities on Climate (GAUC), and fostering academic collaboration between Tsinghua and LSE. Li hopes that Stern will fully leverage his extensive international academic influence to help Tsinghua University expand strategic partnerships with top universities worldwide in the field of climate change. This collaboration aims to achieve new breakthroughs in joint talent cultivation, cutting-edge scientific research, and other areas, contributing wisdom and strength to addressing global challenges and building a community with a shared future for mankind.

Lord Stern commended Tsinghua's global leadership in GAUC initiatives and expressed his eagerness to engage in deeper academic exchanges and collaborative research with Tsinghua faculty and students to explore new pathways for sustainable development.

Professor Jiang presents the Honorary Professor Appointment Certificate to Lord Stern

The appointment ceremony was held at Gongziting on March 24, where Jiang Peixue presented Lord Stern with the Honorary Professor Appointment Certificate. He Jiankun, Chair of the National Climate Change Expert Committee and former Executive Vice President of Tsinghua University, as well as representatives from the Department of Energy and Power Engineering and the Institute of Climate Change and Sustainable Development, attended the ceremony.

Later that afternoon, Lord Stern delivered a keynote lecture at the Tsinghua Climate Change Global Lecture Series titled "The Growth Story of the 21st Century: The Economics and Opportunity of Climate Action."

Lord Stern is a foundational figure in the field of global climate change economics. He has served as Chair of the GAUC Academic Committee and has been instrumental in driving collaborative innovation among universities worldwide in climate governance.
